Ole Miss 'Rebels' - Are you kidding me?
So today the Ole Miss student body will vote on whether 'they' should be apart of the process to replace the Ole Miss mascot. My understanding is that they are only considering the replacement of the over-stuff "Colonel Reb" character that was dropped 7 years ago after increased complaints from alumni and athletic department leaders. They are not voting to replace the association with the 'rebel' concept! That, my friend, is my 'are you kidding me?' statement!
In my opinion, and this may make Ole Miss fans hate me, the entire Rebel association and concept should me revamped. Not only does this concept hurt recruiting in athletics, it hurts recruiting of new students period. While many of the kids that are of college age don't care what the rebel term and flag stands for, their parents do.
The state of Mississippi as a whole still has a HUGE image problem throughout this country. Don't believe me, just walk-up to any one of your friends and family, and tell them you are thinking about moving to Mississippi and see what they say. This association with Rebels only fosters this image issue. I'm not blaming Ole Miss for the states image issue, I'm simply saying this backwards thinking only contributes to it. Embracing a new concept at the University of Mississippi would go along way in telling the country that we have moved on. Bottom line, the Rebel and its animated mascot should go!

On tap this weekend in the SEC - My Predictions
The game many of us have been waiting for will take place Saturday at 5:00pm Central, Kentucky at Vanderbilt. I'm picking Vanderbilt to win this game even though they are coming off of a "so so" performance at Ole Miss. Kentucky has not been playing it's best ball either, so who really knows how this will end up. I think Kentucky's lack of a half-court offense and Vanderbilt's size in the paint will give the edge to Vandy. (not to mention that super strange bench set up that seems to give all coaches fits).
Other games of interest that will be tight to the end: Tennessee at South Carolina and Arkansas at Auburn

On Tap this weekend in the SEC - My Predictions
Another great week of SEC basketball is in the books. Miss State completed its
sweep of Ole Miss, Arkansas blew out LSU, Vandy SPANKED Tennessee, Kentucky
continued it's roll, and Auburn dropped a hammer on Georgia.
So what do we have to look forward to over the weekend? Arkansas @ Alabama
should be a great match up. Florida steps out of conference to take on a 16-7
Xavier squad. Tennessee at Kentucky is expected to be a decent game, but with
the Vols coming off a beat down at Vandy, I'm not expecting this one to be close.

On Tap this weekend in the SEC - My Predictions
Another great week of SEC basketball with several games going down to the wire. Arkansas made a 15 point comeback to win at Georgia, Miss State pushed Vandy to the buzzer, and LSU made a solid effort vs Tennessee. No Devan Downey this week, but he's got a tough one this weekend when the Vols come to town (which may be the best matchup of the weekend). Auburn at Arkansas will be a good one to watch as well, with the Hogs riding a 3 game winning streak!

On Tap this week in the SEC - My Predictions
No real marquee match-ups this week, but there are few good game to keep your eyes on...Arkansas at Georgia could go either way. Georgia is extremely athletic and big, something the Hogs struggle with especially on the glass. Mississippi State at Vanderbilt, Vandy must hold home court to keep pace with Kentucky. Vernado's ability to shake things up with blocks will be interesting to watch. Other games could easily be blow-out games, but let's hope for good close ones.
